Hardware topics will include motherboards, peripheral cards, communication protocols, and cabling. Software topics will include basic input output systems (BIOS) and power-on self-test (POST) procedures, disk operating systems (DOS) and Windows operation essentials, local area network (LAN) fundamentals, and troubleshooting techniques. Prerequisites: NONE Attendance: If you are a NO SHOW on the first class meeting and I DO NOT RECEIVE ANY CONTACT from you regarding your absence on the first class meeting, I will drop you from the class and add another student. This course is designed as a series of lecture and lab exercises. It is mandatory that proper attendance be maintained. Grades: The final semester grading scale will be: A =The student has acquired the knowledge and INSIGHT to vocationally apply all the course material. No further review, training, or experience is required. B =The student has acquired the knowledge to vocationally apply all the course material. Some further review, training, or experience is required. C =The student has acquired the knowledge to vocationally apply most of the course material. Further review, training, and experience are needed. D =The student has acquired the knowledge to vocationally apply some of the course material. Significant additional review, training, and experience are required. F =The student can not vocationally apply the principles of the course. I =Incomplete academic work at the end of the semester, for unforeseeable emergency reasons only. An incomplete will not be issued, in lieu of the earned grade, because of poor and/or late performance. It is the policy of this instructor not to issue incompletes. Weighting for final semester grade will be: Final Test 25% Quizzes 20% Lab 35% Attitude 20% Academic Regulations: Student Responsibility: The student is ultimately responsible for meeting all procedures, requirements, and deadlines. Personal protective eye wear conforming to ANSI Z87.1 must be worn by every student in the classroom any time there is a potential hazard that could adversely affect a person’s eyes and/or face. You must furnish your own eye protection which can be purchased at an automotive parts retailer, hardware store, or from the campus bookstore at a nominal cost. You are required to bring and use your protective eye wear during every laboratory session. Registration: Students must officially register for each course. Failure to properly register will result in "No Credit" for the units attempted. Students not officially registered may not audit. Withdrawal: Students must officially withdraw from courses in progress. Failure to properly withdraw by the deadline will result in a grade of "F." Consult the class schedule for the last withdrawal date.
